Ive been running up and down the local trails for some time now and always get excited when I find new routes on our doorstep.
So when I ran the Dove House 15 Mile Wine Dash that went through North Newbald, I noticed some more paths that hadn't been on my radar before. By using 3 miles of The Rudolph Romp route to bring the run back to the car, it was possible to create a really undulating circular route from just beyond the High Hunsley crossroads.
A long descent down Trundlegate into North Newbald then led to a lovely path behind the village to a very steep up-and-down followed by a very long climb up a dry valley to a high point on top of the Wolds. Another long fast downhill section before the punishing final climb back up to the car.
This route would be perfect on a dry, spring morning, but nowhere near as challenging with the added biting wind and icy conditions underfoot. I had perfect company from Nigel Denton as we discussed future potential adventures and Heinz tomato soup at the finish to round up a perfect morning.
